In Norfolk England in 1995 a core group of logistics analysis enthusiasts founded a company whose objective was to fill the gap left when the Royal Air Force decided to close down its logistics analysis and modelling establishment at Swanton Morley in that same county. The founders organized themselves to provide logistics analysis consulting services and, later, support for the proprietary software database and analytical tools that the UK Ministry of Defence acquired to support equipment procurement and support decision making.

TFD Europe Limited now has well established offices in a renovated barn just outside Norwich. The company employs some of the original founders and has over the years brought in analysts, modellers and logistics experts from all levels of engineering, supply and operational backgrounds.

The business is led by Managing Director John Sharp, who has an aero systems engineering background defined by 20 years service in the RAF covering both operations and equipment support. The leadership team includes two additional Directors with RAF service, Pete Abbey whose expertise is complex databases, and Bill Blatch who has a broad range of expertise including software programming and logistics analysis. Completing the Board is the Chairman and principal owner Robert Butler, an American economist and entrepreneur who had the vision to apply that specialty to logistic decision support, with the result being today’s suite of proprietary analytical tools.

Our business is easily defined as offering three strands: software tool license sales and support, training both in our own tools and in logistics analysis principles, and logistics analysis services. We are fiercely independent and we see this as a major advantage when working with larger organizations and especially in consortia where our service outputs to the customer are untainted by the inter-organization politics. Indeed we have operated as a trusted agent protecting one party’s proprietary data from another team member organization whilst providing scientifically based analysis.

TFD Europe is an agile and flexible organization that can respond instantly to customers’ requirements. We are growing rapidly in the commercial sector where the benefits to military asset managers of an applied science approach to logistics are now attracting their civilian equivalents in areas as diverse as medical, rail, space, and geophysics. We have reach-back to our sister company in Carmle, California and so no logistics analysis problem is too large or too complex for us to resolve.
